That was cold… and frustrating
Wow, that was some cold riding this weekend. The Bandits did a couple short rides in an attempt to “out-tough” the weather. We saw some other guys out there also, and I’m sure they will all agree with me that it was about 5-10 degrees too cold to be remotely comfortable.
The major downside for me was that the wind and air was so cold that I couldn’t even talk. As anyone who as ever ridden with me knows, I like to regale my riding partners with wonderful tales of heroism and glory that put me in a favorable light. But it was not to be this weekend. Whenever the guys mentioned something about work or family, I was powerless. I tried to interject with stories about my high school basketball days or some eating contest that I won in 1996, but only grunts came out. My face was literally frozen and I could not mouth a single word. Instead of using their comments as a way to segway into a long drawn out, mostly fictional anecdote about myself, I was forced to listen to the other guys talk.
You can only imagine how frustrating this was for me. But at the end of the ride, the Bandits thanked me and told me that they could tell I have been working on trying to be less of a jerk. They thought it was nice of me to let them talk for more than 7 seconds today. Screw them, on the next ride, they have another thing coming. I’ll wear a full face ski mask if I have to.

Jeff — you really had me fooled. I thought the therapy was working. Hope your deductible isn’t too high.

I was supposed to meet a bunch of people in the park on saturday, but ended up being the only person to come out. I basked in my frigid loneliness and got a lap in before shrinkage got the best of me

Bandits don’t discuss shrinkage in public, son. It’s not real. Just folklore. Better to keep it that way. Now go back out on your bike and ride it. Post again soon.

Hey - dig your fresh site! Nothing like another set of blogs about riding bikes, right? I was out on Sun and froze my ass off. Only lasted 1.5 hrs before the hands and feet (and the unmentionable…) were blocks of ice, and the drinks frozen for real. Anyone want a sip of Accelerade Frosty when its 27 deg out? - mmmmm. Since its been so long, I just had to remind myself of why I don’t bother to ride outdoors below freezing temps. Came home with the legs feeling every bit as closed as before I left… Keep up the amusing commentary though. Can you tell I get bored at work and surf this inane stuff?

Last weekend may have been cold, but today is a real blood stopper. Fortunately I lift on Fridays and, therefore, didn’t even have to think about whether I would ride, but I did venture out at 6 a.m. to walk the dog. At 8 degrees (and that’s Farenheit for those of you in far away places) the Park was desolate except for a handfull of runners (taking up the entire bike line - - wtf?) and one lone guy on a bike (who was probably all pissed off at the runners in the bike lane). Who was this Nutter? Give us a shout out, amigo. We want to hear your story. Remember, sans the unmentionable.
